Big News!!
On July 16th and 17th, 2008, the switch was installed in the branch line that is our connection to the outside world at the Reardan site. A crew from the branch line railroad and a good group of IERHS volunteers did the hard work. The switch had been assembled right next to the branch line for some time. On the 16th, the branch line tracks, ties and ballast were removed. Then the new switch was slid into place. On the 16th and 17th, new pieces of rail were cut to re-join the branch line while ballast was applied and the track was leveled. This is a giant step forward in our creation of a rail site at Reardan but much needs to be done. The line coming off the switch needs to be extended to another switch and about 4 car lengths beyond. The the other line from the second switch will cross the county highway and enter the Reardan site where some rail has been already been laid. Stay tuned for more exciting developments.
Our President, Bill Graedel passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 18, at 75 years of age. Although Bill was not mobile enough to participate in the heavy tasks, his strength was taking care of all of the back office tasks that are so necessary to keep the organization running smoothly. Bill was great at handling the paperwork, making and receiving lots of phone-calls plus working the multitude of connections that he had throughout the local counties. He seemed to know everyone that mattered. He was a person that was easy to talk to and always ran an organized meeting. He will be greatly missed by everyone in our organization.
The drugstore that housed our post office box is closing. We were forced to find a new location for a post office box. We were unable to maintain our old box number. The new mailing address for the society, effective May, 2006 is:
