Minutes of Aug 2, 2006 meeting
Meeting called to order 7:25 P.M. 12 members present.
SECRETARY'S REPORT: Secretary's report was read, seconded, approved and passed with no corrections.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurers report was read, seconded, approved and passed. Wayne and Jerry were not able to get together this month so the amounts presented may not be accurate at this meeting. We now have an account open at Husky Trucks if we need parts. There was a bill for Mike's in Pasco for $700.00 for preparation of the flat cars. There was a motion to pay $700.00 to Mikes for the flat car preparation. The motion was seconded, approved and passed. A bill for semi truck rental is coming as well as a bill for hydraulic hoist inspection on the 1981 GMC truck from Reardan Grain Growers.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Lincoln County Weed Board sent us notification that we have Kochia and Canada Thistle on the property. The notice was sent July 27 and told us we needed to take care of the problem by August 4. Bill will send a letter to them stating that is a really short time line and difficult for our group to meet such short time lines. There are still complaints on lost donation and membership recognition. Dale, Wayne and Jerry will work on a system to keep better track of the information that we receive. We want to keep the memberships separate from the donations if we can.
EQUIPMENT STATUS REPORT: LOTS OF TRUCKS - We won the bid for the 1981 GMC truck from Reardan Grain Growers. It runs good however there is major hoist repair work to be done. The pump needs replacing, the cylinder ram is bent and the scissors frame is bent. It will cost approx. $700 to get the pump replaced and possibly $1,500 additional in steel and parts. We may need to create a budget to get repairs done. A motion was made to not exceed $1500 in parts and repairs to the truck at this time. There was a motion to sell the old 49 GMC, however, the motion died for lack of a second. It was suggested we wait until the 1981 GMC is in better condition. The status on the third truck from an Odessa estate is on hold at this time due to wheat harvest. We have an offer of a fourth truck, an International R-195 that could be made into a semi tractor. It has air brakes and Bill knows of a Dodge that has a fifth wheel that could possibly be transferred to this truck. This truck would be given to us as a donation.
STATUS OF 286 FLAT CARS: The cars have been moved around in the yard and are getting closer to Reardan.
TRAIN SWAPS: Missoula is the next swap meet. Mike and Gene are going there anyway and are willing to set up a table. There is a difficulty with the calender dates as the Missoula swap meet is the last weekend
Of the Interstate Fair. We may need to remove items from the Interstate Fair to sell at Missoula. Each table at Missoula has a cost of $20. Mike purchased some female children hats to sell at the swap meet or
fair. He purchased them for $2.00 each and we should be able to sell them for $5.00 each. They came from the old Hobbytown store. Mike will settle up his purchase costs after the swap meet.
REARDAN REPORTS: The Red Rooster is out of commission and is in badly need of major repairs. It may have to be torn down and replaced. There is still high fire danger to the Reardan site with the dry weather and tall grasses. It may be necessary to get together with the fire department in the future about doing a controlled burn earlier in the summer to protect the property.
SIDING AT PR&CC: Most of the parts are there for the siding and the switch.
STATUS OF MONEY RAISING: Nothing from Wheatland bank. Mike informed us the casino at Worley is considering a train between Spokane and the casino. The casino has been checking into trackage rights with U. P. We could possibly get the trackage rights and or maybe use some of our equipment to make up the trains. A new request has been sent to Avista asking for a donation.
WATCO INFORMATION: D.O.T. ownership is on hold pending the W.S.U. study on the line and the track.
ANNUAL MEETING: There is a possibility the annual meeting could be held at the Longhorn. They have a nice banquet room and they stay open a little later in the evening. Wayne will check into the availability of their banquet room on the 8th of January, 2007.
OLD BUSINESS: Update on the Lincoln County Economic Development Council. The EDC did not really get started until July, and they have been tied up getting a new water pump for the town of Odessa. They are also working on a bio diesel project. We are on the list and it sounds promising that we will receive some money. We just need to be patient.
NEW BUSINESS: We may be able to lease our F-9 to the lines that operate in Central Idaho. It would be a way to get some repairs, maintenance and new parts for our locomotive as well as some income.
MEETING LOCATION CHANGE: NOTICE - THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE SEPTEMBER 5, AT
THE FAIRGROUNDS AT 7:00 P.M. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF IT.
MOTION TO ADJOURN. 8:27 P.M.
Wayne Shaw, Secretary
