IERHS Meeting Minutes for 1 MAY 2007

Meeting begin 6:50 pms.

23 members present.

INTRODUCTIONS OF MEMBERS AND GUESTS. All members attending introduced themselves.

SECRETARY’S REPORT. The secretary’s report was read, seconded, approved and passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer’s report was read, seconded, approved and passed. Payment of monthly bills included shop expenses, tires and moving of the freight cars to the Reardan site.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS. We have received $600 in additional donations.

EQUIPMENT STATUS REPORT. GMC truck No. 1 is parked. GMC truck No.2 is being worked on. D-8 no change at this time. Case Backhoe, has an electrical problem again.

U.P. TURNTABLE. Nothing new at this time. We need to keep after them to make sure we don’t lose it. Possibly we can get in contact with Sams Club.

STATUS OF 286 K FLAT CARS IN PASCO. There is a group that is interested in purchasing the flat cars. A question was raised if we could make enough money from selling the flat cars to move the turntable? A question was raised if we should stencil our name on the side of the cars? The members suggested not at this time.

ACTIVITY REPORTS. Do we want to attend Slippery gulch parade in Tekoa on 16 June? The answer was no.

TRAIN SWAPS. There are less than 50 T-shirts left. Mike sold a little of everything. We grossed $604.45 and netted $540 and change for the group. The next chance to sell items is at Reardan. The firehouse is open to us to set up tables to sell items. There is no cost for the tables. Question was asked do we want to be in the parade? We need help for selling at the tables. Donna will work on getting someone to sell at the tables.

OPEN HOUSE AT FAIRGROUNDS. Bill made up flyers for the open house. The date is June 16 from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. There will be a meeting next Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. at the fairgrounds. The depot needs cleaning, the cars need cleaning, we need a food vendor and we need a birthday cake for our 40th year. Franks Franks was suggested as a food vender with a good reputation. Mike Denuty will assist. It was suggested to send invitations to all past presidents and railroad clubs. It was also suggested that we give the railroad clubs tables to help promote themselves. A question was raised do we want to spend money on advertisement? A motion was made, seconded, approved and passed to spend up to $200 on advertising. The fairgrounds will require a contract for the open house, will provide restrooms for us at no charge, will make a note in their calendar of events, and put a notice on the reader board a week before the event. If we ask for donations only, there will be no required 15 % payment to the fairgrounds for profit.

COMMITTEE REPORTS. Nothing new.

TRACK PLACEMENT. No return information from WATCO or WSDOT.

STATUS OF MONEY RAISING. WHEATLAND BANK. A calendar and sidetrack has been sent to the board of directors. AVISTA FOUNTATION. They want to see some activity.

OLD BUSINESS. WATCO is running unit grain trains. They are in the process of contracting to WSDOT.

NEW BUSINESS. Bill has sent a copy of our liability requirements to Canfield and Associates to see if we can get a lower insurance premium. A question was raised if we could get a Sidetrack out before June 1st or whether to just send flyers? Dale said he would work on a sidetrack. We will need to contact the Inlander, NW Byways, Numerica (the old Railway Credit Union) and maybe they will include flyers in bills. It would be chance to promote the open house. Stan did an excellent job of recovering 5 dining car seats and backs and brought a sample for all to see.
