Mr. Burton of Railroad Salvage contacted Gene to see if we would be interested in leasing him a spot to store two or three cabooses on the Reardan property while he finds buyers, in exchange for a donation of a caboose for the organization. Motion made and passed to allow short-term storage and to accept the donation.
Mike talked about the building for our use in Reardan during Mule Days. Lee Vincent will get details from Dale as to when we can get inside to take a look to see what we need to do so we can put up displays. All members interested in going should contact Lee V. on Friday.
The next meeting will be on June 3rd at 7:00 pm at Sweet old Bobs.
Wayne Shaw briefed the acquisition of the semaphores; He’s waiting to hear if he can get them delivered to Reardan. Members made suggestions on deadheading delivery trucks coming back from Montana. He’ll look into it.
Jerry Fey talked about his progress in the library car. He is cataloging the hard cover books into a database. He read the e-mails he has received. Jerry found our missing organization paperwork, gave them to Mike so all officers will have copies.
Gene asked for help getting two air jacks from Idaho to Spokane, He needs the use of a pickup truck.
We are insured for another year. We expect to see an increase in rates when we move to Reardan.
Our attorney is still looking at the contract with the fairgrounds; she has recommended a few changes. We are waiting for one Country Commissioner to come back from vacation so we can go over the suggested changes.
Our caboose in Pasco is still in limbo due to the leasing organization not responding to Mike’s phone calls. Mike suggested we lay rail in Reardan before we pursue bringing it back home.
Cal Graedel is keeping records for in-kind work (matching funds) for grant purposes.
Application for Capital Projects for Washington Heritage grant is due in May 2004. We have a year to get the required paperwork together.
Bill Graedel says the grant we applied for is still alive. Lets keep or fingers crossed.
Mike contacted the Jeld Wen Company for a donation of a bumper and track; Mike is working to come up with a fair value letter.
Gene is working with Pacific Metals for a rail donation; they also need a fair value letter.
It is also in the works.
Bill Graedel briefed that Lincoln County has made the building in Harrington surplus; it has been offered exclusively to the city of Reardan for $500.00. Bill to get with Dale.
Mike will get with the Palouse River and Coulee City Railroad to find out their feeling about running a excursion train on our behalf in the near future. A discussion was held as to what cars may be available to use. A suggestion was made to bring our cars back from Ione, since our cars are in need of work. No decision was made. Bill will look into the availability of using a siding in Davenport or Reardan until rail is laid onto our property. Gene reminded us that new roller-bearing wheels sets will be needed on one or both cars if this is the case.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
