RAILWAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MINUTES 7 JULY 2009
Meeting begin 1902 hrs.
18 members present.
SECRETARY’S REPORT. The secretary’s report was read. There were 6 corrections. The minutes were approved as corrected, 2nd and passed.
TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer’s report was read, 2nd and passed.
EQUIPMENT STATUS REPORT. The backhoe is inoperable. A gear is broken and is in several pieces. The F-9 batteries have been installed. The American Navy ownership has been transferred to Tom Heckler for the Hillyard Fire and Rail Museum. We need to contact U.P. for equipment to move the car. The car is almost ready to move. The weeds need to be cut before moving the car. It was discussed there is a need to do preservation work on the roofs of the railcars. Gene knows an individual who will do the work. Gene suggested paying the individual $200 a month for the next 2 months. There was a motion for $400.00 to pay the painter. The motion was approved, 2nd and passed. We will supply the paint, and there will one member on site when the individual is painting. We need volunteers to paint and scrape windows on the other cars. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday are all work days from 0800 to 1200 each day. The F-unit needs scraping and primer on the rusted areas. The 2-foot gauge #2 locomotive is running better. The spark plugs and wires were replaced. It needs a new 6 volt heavy-duty battery. There is a possibility of a donation of a battery from Jerry Fey.
ACTIVITY REPORTS. SWAP MEETS/EVENTS. Reardan Mule Days. We sold about $100. It was good publicity. Open House. We made $1,500 in one day last year, and only $776 this year in 2 days. We estimated 150 people rode on the 2-foot gauge train. Rathdrum days are July 17 and 18. We have two spaces. We need a hands on activity, however at this time there may not be any electricity. We need people to be there from 1200 until 2100 on Friday, and 1000 until 1900 on Saturday. Donna can set up on Friday, but needs someone to tear down on Saturday. We need 2 people all the time. We will have give away items such as stickers, key chains, Montana postcards. We also need a lightweight table. The Lincoln County Fair is August 27-30. John will attend and needs one volunteer.
FAIRGROUNDS. John attended the meeting in June and gave an update. He received a point of contact for the Boy Scouts as a possible source of manpower for Reardan Track work. John will attend the next Fair Board meeting July 8. Wayne has weed spraying on his list for both Reardan and the Fairgrounds. Tom Heckler is working on getting the fire extinguishers checked and on a list as to their location.
REARDAN. The siding spur is gauged, however we need the tractor to help at this time for more tie setting. A motor car group wants to visit the museum at Reardan.
COMMITTEE REPORTS. There is no report from the book committee, as there has been no communication from Charlie.
NEW BUSINESS. A question was raised about floor covering in the 589 rail car. When do we want it and when can we get it. It was mentioned the weather is nice and warm now. We need a few days to float the floor and level it out. There were suggestions of auto body putty, or floor leveling compounds.

There was no meeting for the Inland Empire Railway Historical Chapter. John will send a letter to National authorizing him to represent the local chapter at the August convention.
