Meeting begin 1904
24 members present.
SECRETARY’S REPORT. The secretary’s report was read, approved, 2nd and passed with no corrections.
TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer’s report was read, approved, 2nd and passed.
EQUIPMENT STATUS REPORT. The backhoe has been repaired and is back in operation at Reardan. The bill for repairs will be approx. $1,000. The American Navy sleeper has been moved off the fairgrounds trackage onto the U.P. yard. We have fulfilled the requirement to move1 car off the grounds per year. Tom Heckler gave a report stating he is waiting for an inspection before U.P. will pick up the car. BNSF has offered to move the car for free, however they are requesting insurance and the inspection first. It is unknown what kind of insurance is needed at this time. The Hillyard Fire and Rail museum is responsible for the car and the insurance at this time. The flooring materials are in for the 589 car. We need assistance with the flooring as it needs to be done before the fair. The small paper mill crane is operating well after repairing a broken air line. There is no change in the car swaps at this time. The 952 car involved in the swap is in good condition.
ACTIVITY REPORTS. SALES/SWAP MEETS. Rathdrum days on July 17 only produced $20, so the group decided not to set up on July 18. The Lincoln County Fair is August 27-30. John will be operating his trains. Gene made some new tables for us to use out there. We need volunteers, and hope to get a booth where we are more visible.
FAIRGROUNDS. There was no meeting of the fair board. Gene will attend the meeting on 12 August in place of John. Our lease expired on 31 May, however Rich Hartzell is working with the county commissioners for renewal. It is expected to remain the same, including the requirement of moving 1 piece of equipment per year. It was suggested we ask the county for assistance in filling holes made by the Marmots.
INTERSTATE FAIR. The fair dates are September 11-20. We need to firm up volunteer schedule. John will turn in the photo pass list on 5 August. We need the 2 foot gauge train inspected. Wayne will get in touch with Mike Jobe on the inspection. There is a regular workday at the fairgrounds on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. There was a suggestion to use the interurban shelter for a ticket booth. It needs painting and it needs a description about what its purpose. The starter could be bad on the #2 locomotive for the 2 foot gauge.
REARDAN. The spur off the EWGRR has been laid out to the car stops. It needs spiking and leveling. Work has been laying out the access track from the spur on to the museum property. Willing bodies on Sunday mornings are always welcome. The weeks have been sprayed. The Toadflax has bugs that are a natural biological control agent.
FUNDRAISING. The October train swap meet at SCC is the next fundraising event after the Interstate Fair.
PUBLICITY ACTIVITIES. The senior wellness conference handed out letters with coupons for a free train ride and a discount at the store.
COMMITTEE REPORTS. There is nothing further on the Drover train book at this time.
NEW BUSINESS. Everyone is invited to come to the Hillyard Festival to show support for them.
NEXT MEETING TIME AND LOCATION. THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE AT 6 P.M. AT THE FAIRGROUND DEPOT. BE PREPARED TO DO WORK. BRING ALONG YOUR OWN DINNER.
Motion to adjourn. 1957 hrs.
INLAND EMPIRE CHAPTER BUSINESS. John has sent a letter to national authorizing him to represent the chapter at the August Convention.
