IERHS Monthly Meeting - March 1, 2005

15 members present. Meeting called to order 1923 hrs.

INTRODUCTION OF MEMBERS AND GUESTS: Each member stated their name and a sign up sheet was available for all members present.

SECRETARY'S REPORT: Corrections consisted of the following... Bill

Would go down with Rielley to get the steps for caboose instead of Cal. Bill

asked for $5,000 from the Indian tribes instead of the reported $10,000

and an addition was made to indicate some scrap rail, ties and switches

were to come from the old Kaiser Mead plant. The minutes as corrected

were seconded, approved and passed.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Jerry and Art are forming both computer generated

and hand written ledgers. The Treasurer's report was seconded, approved

and passed.

EQUIPMENT REPORT:

CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY STATUS: We need to find a roller for the D-8. Warren will try to locate one. The backhoe is still in pieces.

MUSEUM ROLLING STOCK STATUS: There was no report on rolling stock.

ACTIVITY REPORT:

TRAIN SWAP MEET: The items purchased from Montana

Daylight sold well. Posters on the 700 sold very well as well as whistles. It is estimated that we made back half of the initial investment of all the items that we purchased.

FAIRGROUNDS: Stan has been painting the 974. Work has been done on the windowsills. There has been some concern about the safety of the boxcar while it is on jacks. If all goes well, the boxcar should be moved around the 19 March.

COMMITTEE REPORTS: REARDAN REPORT: TRACK DRAWINGS: There are new track drawings now showing an area chosen for the turntable. Fuel is

Getting low in the F-9 and most of the other fuel tanks are empty. There have

been 5 loads of rock delivered. The driveline on the truck broke. It has been repaired, but the 2-speed axle is stuck in low range.

LIBRARY REPORT: Inventory and cataloging books from the estate is continuing. It is estimated there are $1,000 worth of books.

STATUS OF MONEY RAISING: Bill has made contact with tribes asking for

$5,000 each. He will try the Colville tribe next as well as U.S. Bank and Wheatland Bank. We need the financial statement to receive grants before June for the banks to become involved.

OLD BUSINESS: Bill drew up a letter of record for moving the boxcar to Reardan. The price is $300 and the plan is to move the boxcar on the 19 March.

TURNTABLE STATUS: The turntable is still waiting for us and probably will not become an issue until the land it is sitting on is sold.

WATCO: No new information at this time. The state has $26 million dedicated to rebuild the rail line

NEW BUSINESS:

DOT ownership. Bill sent 38 pages of paper work to Vicki Glover of the state auditor's office describing our operation. He has not heard back yet.

Bill contacted Avista to ask for a grant to set power. He also talked to Nick Marriot.

We need a new museum committee and make contact with Lee Vincent.

Fogel is expected to start drilling a 6" diameter well next week. The next step will be to plan where the septic systems will go.

We will attend the train swap meet in Pullman on March 20. A letter was received from Ken Vogel. He has members that want to donate to our group. The money will be put into the U.S. Bank account.

There was a motion to design a memorial plaque for members that have passed away and donated funds. The motion also asked to design a plaque for Mike for all the years he was our president. The motion was seconded, approved and passed.

It was brought to attention that Mule Days is June 4-5 and it is unknown if Piper is going to be well enough to set up a booth. We need to find out where the train is located which the scouts used in the parade. It was suggested that we need to get a

booth for $100 at the Davenport fair to try and get advertising in other area

towns.

We received a plaque for becoming a chamber member at Reardan. Reardan has a Public Development Authority committee now. If we declare our rail cars as historical, we may be able to receive grants through the P.D.A. We will need to be on the National Historical Register. Dale was volunteered to be our spokesperson. A motion was made to join the P.D.A. It was seconded, approved and passed.

Bill will write a letter to see if we can get county road administration money to build our road approaches.

Stan will check on T-shirt inventory regarding the sizes to make sure we have enough of the popular sizes in stock.
