Minutes IERHS Meeting June 7, 2005
20 members present, meeting called to order at 1842 hrs.
INTRODUCTION OF MEMBERS AND GUESTS
SECRETARY'S REPORT : Secretary's report was read seconded, and passed with no corrections.
TREASURER'S REPORT : Treasure's report was read, seconded, approved and passed. Art and Jerry requested no more hand written receipts from purchasers. Hand written receipts from garage sales, swap meets etc. are acceptable, but they must be from the seller personally not from
members who have purchased items.
CORRESPONDENCE : A hand out was passed to all members present with the report of the backhoe. The report listed all of the problems with the backhoe and some of them were major problems. It was recommended by the mechanic the backhoe be sold for scrap. A 210 series backhoe is available for purchase for $5300. A motion was made to sell the old backhoe for scrap or parts and to purchase the series 210. The motion was approved, with 2 opposing votes, seconded and passed.
There was a letter from the North Pend Oreille Lions club, a new lease for the fairgrounds, a notice that we owe Copenhavers for 350 yards of rock, a notice about the National Rail Historical meeting, Avista costs to supply power will be $11,000, and the Dept. of Revenue is still denying tax exempt. We need a plan to get the Dept. of Revenue to recognize us as tax exempt. There was also a letter from Barbara Rogers requesting an easement across our property.
EQUIPMENT STATUS REPORT : CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT. We now have an
account at Edwall Chemical for fuel for our equipment.
EQUIPMENT STATUS REPORT : MUSEUM ROLLING STOCK - The trucks from Inland Paper are on site from a 1912 steam crane. There is a second pair available. There are also 30 lengths of 56-60 LB. rail from Inland Paper. Tim Jackson will haul the rail for a $1000 write off. Denny has the boxcar bolsters and trucks put together under the boxcar.
ACTIVITY REPORTS : TRAIN SWAPS - Mule days took in $55 from the sale of items.
ACTIVITY REPORTS : FAIRGROUND - There is a new lease from the fairgrounds. Bill needs some assistance from members that have knowledge about the old lease before he signs it. There was a motion to authorize bill to sign the lease when the time comes. The motion was approved, seconded and passed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: REARDAN REPORT - It was reported the float looked really great in the parade and that we should use it in the Davenport parade. We need to find a storage place for the float when it is not in use. A copy of the Sidetrack has been sent to all Reardan residences. It was suggested for $200 we could include the Sidetrack to all the Reardan and
Davenport residences as a mail insert. A motion was made to send the Sidetrack as a mail insert to all Reardan and Davenport residences. It was approved, seconded and passed. It was noted that 6-8 Reardan High School kids came out to drive some spikes.
COMMITTEE REPORTS : PROPERTY PLAN LAYOUT - New track plans are laid out again with a few changes and updates.
COMMITTEE REPORTS : SIDING AT PR&CC - The siding is laid out and graveled. Warren did the work and it looks great.
HISTORIAN REPORT : There was a donation of 3 seat cushions. The red velvet cushions are in good condition.
STATUS OF MONEY RAISING : A meeting with Pam Kelly was held at the fairgrounds. She submitted a summary of her discussion at our last IEHRS meeting. She stated that we need to specify exactly where the money is going to go. It was decided the money needed to go to track and moving expenses. A motion was made to specify the grant money go to track, switches and moving expenses. The motion was approved, seconded and passed. Bill will ask Spokane County Commissioner Bill Harris if the county can come up with money to help us move.
The rest of the Montana Daylight Rockies inventory is available for sale. There are HO train cars, T-shirts, travel bags, plates and playing cards. The cost is $400. A motion was made to purchase the remaining Montana Daylight Rockies inventory to use for resale. The motion was
approved, seconded and passed.
Bill has sent a letter to Kathy McMorris. It is hopeful that we can get some dignitaries to look into our organization and possibly find some money for us.
OTHER OLD BUSINESS : WATCO - WATCO has been notified of our track activities. No new info on equipment or property for sale from them.
NEW BUSINESS : Odessa has a highway project in the area. They have to dismantle a loading dock and there could be some 30 to 40 foot long ties available.
NEW BUSINESS : STATE OF WASHINGTON - The state is pressing onward toward ownership if the rail line. It was noted that passing out Sidetracks has been successful for new
membership and donations. We will have 2 tables for the swap meet in the valley. We need to decide whether to have a booth at the Davenport Lincoln County Fair in August. The cost is $100 for 4 days with free admission. A motion was made to spend the $100 for a table at the
Lincoln County Fair. The motion was approved, seconded, and passed with one opposing vote.
A $58,000 grant came through for Reardan's Audubon Lake.
We should be a part of a feasibility grant study for $25,000 for the Ag Tour Train.
Dale also suggested we have an honor donation recognition memorial board on our site.
NEW BUSINESS : ANNUAL MEETING - The by-laws need to be reviewed, updated and passed out at the annual meeting. Denny volunteered to be the committee chairman.
Motion to Adjourn came at 2031 hrs.
