4 October 2005

18 members present.

Meeting called to order 7:05 p.m.

INTRODUCTION OF MEMBERS AND GUESTS. No new guests at this time.

SECRETARY'S REPORT: Secretary's report was read, approved, seconded and passed with no corrections.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Art reported the revenues for IERHS from the fair have been turned over to our bank account. Prior to the fair, some money was removed out of the bank for much needed expenses. However the money should be returned soon. The money is earmarked for building the depot. There is also concern about the first payment to Lee Tillotson. Art's monthly treasurer's report was read, approved, seconded and passed.

LIBRARY REPORT: Jerry is still cataloging books and entering them in the computer.

CORRESPONDENCE: Western Montana Chapter NRHS is offering DVD videos of "Montana By Steam" excursion trip from 2002 (SP&S # 700 trips), and 2004 (SP # 4449 trips) available at a price of $10 per copy from Western Montana Chapter NRHS.

Discussion and action: We considered buying both D.V.D. videos, but we turned down the offer, citing lack of a DVD player. There was a letter from someone that had 200 gallons of diesel, and Lee checked on it but the owner said it was already spoken for. There were 2 sets of recorded steam engine tapes for $10 per copy to sell at the Oct 16 swap meet. A motion was made, approved, seconded and passed to purchase the tapes.

EQUIPMENT REPORT: CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY: Backhoe/loader is in use. A business owner in Airway Heights has offered us several track speeders and a large supply of spare parts for sale. A motion was made to purchase the speeders. The motion was approved, seconded and passed. We also received the title for the trailer from B-Line transport.

ROLLING STOCK STATUS: Work is still progressing on getting the passenger cars in working order for the eventual move to the Reardan site.

ACTIVITIES REPORT: SPOKANE INTERSTATE FAIR REPORT: We had a fun exciting, busy fair over the 10 days from Sept 9-18. Museum tours and train ride revenues were up. Club members worked from a few hours to the full 10 days. Among the new additions this year was an operating "O" gauge train layout in one of the exhibit rooms in the "American Scene" sleeping car. It was a favorite attraction for the kids during the fair. The display was donated by Jon Simanton, our museum train curator this year. He said we need to do a better job of keeping the museum train clean. It was operated by this versatile author. Gift shop sales during the fair were very good, especially with the Montana Rockies Rail Tours items. The passenger car models and the Montana Rail Link employee’s cookbooks were an especially big hit. We also distributed many free copies if the "Sidetrack" during the fair. Among those to be recognized for their great efforts and many working hours included Lee Tillotson (trainmaster), Tom Stanley, Stan Troyer and Bruce Juneau (all museum workers) and John Simanton (museum curator) and many others.

TRAIN SWAPS: The set up time for us to arrange the tables for exhibit/sales at the Oct. 16 train show and swap meet will be held at S.C.C. Lair building on Sat. Afternoon Oct 15 from 3 to 5 P.M. (3 to 8 P.M. for layouts). This will help us to save some money. Among the items donated for the silent auction includes magazines, a safety jacket, a brass locomotive (HO scale) a model (U-50) diesel. Dale Swaint also would like to have a track speeder auctioned off with a minimum bid of $350. Gene agreed also.

COMMITTEE REPORTS: REARDAN: The building committee needs to be contacted so plans for construction of the station building can be drawn up and finalized before construction begins.

HISTORIAN REPORT: We acquired an ex-American Car and Foundry express/messenger car from the Union Pacific Railroad. It is at the Hinkle yard. Gene had the yard crews position the car for the move to Spokane the day the Union Pacific 3985 Steam special arrived in Hinkle.

We are considering using the car as a shop car, replacing the Great Northern No. 319 express car.

MONEY RAISING: BANKS AND TRIBES: No word from U.S. Bank.

OLD BUSINESS: WATCO/PR&CC information: No word from WATCO yet on the switch or moving the equipment yet.

NEW BUSINESS: Washington State DOT ownership: Bill is still trying to make contact with them. Ron Jennings with his back ground in transportation planning is interested in the streetcars. He wants to write an article on them.

BYLAWS: Denny is still gathering information to update the bylaws.

ANNUAL MEETING: Dick Green has been contacted to be the banquet speaker.

Motion To Adjourn was accepted at 8:10 p.m.

Wayne Shaw, Secretary
